The Hawkes winery is small, family owned and adorable. This is the type of winery that I seek out on my wine travels. They make some great wines, however, they are on the pricey side.
They make wines from varietals popular in California. The tasting started with the 06 Home Chardonnay which was light and not overly oaked. The next three wines were great examples of Alexander Valley reds. The 04 Merlot was smooth and light. The 03 Cabernet (8% Merlot) was great as was the 02 Cab (6% Merlot).
The staff in the tasting room were fun and engaging. We had a lovely time. Stop by and enjoy the laid back and informal ambiance while you try some great wines.
Downsides? The Cabs are $40+ which is on the pricier side but still worth a visit.
