Preston is a great place to visit mid day or in the afternoon for a picnic.  With a gorgeous, spacious property and a store selling provisions within the tasting room, all the elements lead to a rest for the weary wine taster.  They make several lovely wines too, so don’t skip the tasting.

The focus is Rhone varietals so you will get a chance to try some different wines.  Our tasting included the 06 Carignane, the 06 Zin, the 06 blend (Syrah, Carignane, Mouvedre, Cinsault) and the 05 Syrah – Sirah (blend of Syrah and Petite Sirah).  We also went back into the winery to try the Jug wine which is mostly Zin with Mouvedre, Carignane and Petite Sirah.  A great party wine to share with friends.

Downsides?  Many other people may share the picnic idea on sunny weekends so go on an weekday if you can or be prepared to share the grounds.
