Kenwood will always have a special place in my heart as it was the first California winery I visited and subsequently fell in love with. It is a very welcoming winery for those new (and not new) to wine, with an unpretentious staff and easy to like wines.
This is a popular winery so it can get crowded, especially in the afternoon (the place closes at 4:30 sharp though so don’t show up at 4:15 expecting to taste – trust me). They make some really nice wines. Their Cab was a favorite of mine for a long time in my early wine days.
Kenwood makes quite a few wines, so it is a good place to increase your exposure to different varietals. The wines are very reasonably priced, which in this area is sadly a rarity (most wines are in the teens to low $20s). Stop by if you are in the area and are looking for some great everyday wines. No appointment needed.
