Located on the Silverado Trail in Napa, Rutherford Hill is a fun and welcoming winery that makes some really great wines. We tasted quite a few on our visit and since that day I have bought more wines made by this winery.
We tasted all reds on our visit, and the standouts were the Reserve Merlot ($70, aged in French Oak 20-22 months), the 04 Petite Verdot ($30, limited production, blended with Malbec, really smooth with soft tannins) and the 03 Cabernet.
The sister winery, Terlato, makes some great vines that I highly recommend. In our tasting they poured the 04 Terlato Angel’s Peak (Merlot & Cabernet blend) which was smooth, easy to drink and delicious.
I bought a few wines on our visit and aged one of them, the Petite Verdot, for a few years before enjoying it with a lamb dinner. The wine was so amazing that I wrote a blog post about it.
Downsides? None at all. I would love to visit this winery again. Great wines, very friendly staff and a nice tasting facility.
